Monster book of Monsters?

ok im really frustrated right now. I purchased a monster book of monsters from Flourish and Blotts and have no idea how to open it. After trying many different things and receiving countless teeth marks all over my arms I still have no idea how to get it open without losing a limb. Any suggestions are welcome.
