How do I get rid of spiders?

Spiders are my BIGGEST fear. I moved into a house in June and the first night here I found a spider in my bedroom which I didn't think anything of. Since then, I kill about two spiders in there daily and tonight I thought I was in a horror movie. I heard some clanking in the light above my bed and all of a sudden this HUGE black thing descended from it. I don't even know if it was a spider. SO I hightailed it out of my room and into the hall where there were TWO spiders on the wall in front of my door... as if they were telling me not to go in there. The people I live with refuse to kill them for me and I seriously don't know if my heart can take any more of the fear I experience when I encounter them. HELP.
