What happened to Homeworld 2?

Homeworld 2 is Tthe BEST videogame out there. And no one plays it anymore, nor is there a sequel! What's up with that? I'm only on mission 7 (out of fourteen), so does something happen that ends the storyline for good that I don't know about? If so, to bad! Why doesn't sierra alter the storyline or make a prequel?
